Andrew James Art and JIA Shanghai Artist in Residence Program Proposal

Andrew James Art and JIA Shanghai co-launches an exciting Artist in Residence program in Shanghai from
October 2009, aiming to promote the next generation of great artists and helping to provide platform for
creating extraordinary artworks, we invite all prospective artists to apply.

Basics of the Program:
Application Age: Artists over 21 years of age.
Period of Stay: 4 Weeks
JIA Hotel Shanghai Provides: One hotel room and one studio (approx. 30sqm or 300sqf) free of charge.
Residency artist is provided with free breakfast, free afternoon tea and free wifi throughout the hotel.
Andrew James Art gallery provides local technical support to the artists.

Artists are responsible for the following expenses:
Any fee incurred outside the room charge, e.g. phone charge, mini bar and room service, etc.
Visa fees, air tickets and local travel expenses.
Artists living expenses and personal expenditures during the stay.
Material and other cost for production of the works.
Artists medical expenditure.
Any other expenses.

Background of Andrew James Art:
Andrew James Art gallery was founded in March 2007 in a colonial mansion in central Shanghai, an
independent gallery that offers quality work by leading Asian contemporary artists and aim to promote
future generations of graduate artists. Andrew James Art has participated international art fairs in Europe,
North America and around Asia.

Background of JIA Hotel Shanghai:
JIA takes its name from the Mandarin word meaning 'home' and is the second to open in the JIA
collection of boutique hotels following in the footsteps of the Philippe Starck-designed JIA HONG KONG,
this Shanghai sister, opened in March 2008, fuses comfort and luxury, striking a perfect balance between a
home and a hotel, with a touch of humor to boot!

Residency Room:
A suit room is provided, with a small kitchen (including stove and cooking utensils), TV, DVD, private
bathroom and free wifi throughout the hotel.

Artist Studio:
One unfurnished room in the hotel, approx. 30sqm (300sqf) with private toilet facility.
